Site description (2000 baseline)
Bog areas with freshwater ponds, marshes, grazed meadows, cultivated land and woodland (including conifer plantations, areas colonized with Betula, Salix and Alnus and small areas of Fagus). Formerly most of the area was one large raised bog; the ponds are the result of the former extraction of peat.

Key biodiversity
Significant numbers (but below criteria thresholds) of wintering geese Anser fabalis and A. anser, and raptors Pernis apivorus and Circus aeruginosus use the site. Pernis apivorus and Circus aeruginosus, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site.
