Site description (2003 baseline):
Site location and context
The village concentrate on the coastal area, and most of the people work as dry land farmer and fisherman. Main comodities are coconut, coffee, cashew, cacao, kapok, clove, nutmeg and also honey bee.
There are three endemic species of Wetar Island, two of which are Crimson-hooded Myzomela
Myzomela kuehni and Black-chested Honeyeater
Lichmera notabilis, surely live in this area. Wetar Figbird
Sphecotheres hypoleucos is predicted lives in this area.
The main habitat is dry deciduous forest (Monk
et.al.1997). The vegetation typs are beach forest, lowland forest on limestone, savanna, galery forest, slope mountain volcanic forest and lower mountain forest (MacKinnon & Artha 1981).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Natural habitat alteration for cultivation and burning vegetation for shifting agriculture.
45000 ha of this area has been proposed as a Nature Reserve(MacKinnon & Artha 1981, Monk
et.al.1997)
