Site location and context
An extensive lake and wetland complex situated along the River Dalälven. Much of the area floods regularly and comprises freshwater marsh and peatbogs. The surrounding forests of both coniferous and deciduous species are largely old and undisturbed. Commercial forestry is, however, carried out in some areas.
The IBA supports a diversity of breeding species of wetland and forest habitats.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
A Ramsar Site (20,100 ha) is likely to be designated in the near future.
