Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
Mainly open agricultural land on a drained former lake with some small plantations. The site also includes two shallow lakes surrounded by reedbeds with
Alnus forest and some heathland.
An exceptionally important staging area, particularly for
Anser brachyrhynchus and
A. anser.
Botaurus stellaris, Branta leucopsis, Circus aeruginosus and
Lanius collurio, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
In 1994 the first phase of a large restoration project to remove invasive
Salix,
Pinus mugo and other trees was implemented; the water-level was raised by 30 cm and further increases are planned.

International High4,270 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Fiilsø, 4,320 ha). 1,994 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Fiilsø, 1,994 ha).
