Site description (2000 baseline)
Mainly open agricultural land on a drained former lake with some small plantations. The site also includes two shallow lakes surrounded by reedbeds with Alnus forest and some heathland.

Key biodiversity
An exceptionally important staging area, particularly for Anser brachyrhynchus and A. anser. Botaurus stellaris, Branta leucopsis, Circus aeruginosus and Lanius collurio, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site.
