Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
Partially drained fjords with lakes, reedbeds, meadows and saltmarshes.
The IBA is an important staging area for
Cygnus cygnus,
C. columbianus and
Anser fabalis (nationally important site). Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site including
Botaurus stellaris,
Circus aeruginosus,
Porzana porzana, Recurvirostra avosetta, Philomachus pugnax, Sterna hirundo, S. paradisaea and
Chlidonias niger.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
There are plans to inundate some parts of the site with saltwater during winter. Introduced American mink
Mustela vison prey on breeding birds.
National Partial
International High4,870 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Vejlerne and Logstor Bredning, 45,280 ha). 4,870 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Østlige Vejler, 4,870 ha).
