Site description (2000 baseline)
Low-lying flood-plain surrounded by alluvial fans in the vicinity of the villages of Pitvaros, Tótkomlós and Csanádalberti. Wet saline grasslands cover the majority of the site, with loess grasslands and arable fields on the higher ground. Human activities include grazing, arable farming and hunting.
Key biodiversity
An important area for steppic birds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (2-6 wintering birds), Otis tarda (15-25 resident individuals).
