Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
An area of plains to the south-west of Salamanca with dehesas, arable crops and grasslands. The site is crossed by the River Azaba with alluvial forest. The main human activities are arable cultivation and livestock-farming.
This is an important site for breeding raptors and
Ciconia nigra. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Tetrax tetrax (5 resident pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The most important threats are plans to build a wind-farm and a hydroelectric power-station, and gravel extraction.
