Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
This site comprises a reservoir surrounded by dehesa, non-irrigated arable land and grassland. There is a wooded island in the reservoir. The main human activities are livestock-grazing and hunting.
The site is important for post-breeding
Ciconia nigra, breeding herons and wintering
Grus grus.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The major threat to the site is from agricultural intensification, in particular an increase in the area of irrigated crops. An irrigation scheme threatens a wooded island in the reservoir used by breeding birds. Disturbance is also a threat.
