Site location and context
A shallow bay containing some 20 islands, surrounded by extensive grazed meadows and reedbeds
Phragmites. Dryer areas support
Juniperus.
The IBA is important for breeding waterbirds and as a stop-over site for passage wildfowl and waders.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
A Ramsar Site (3,680 ha) is likely to be designated in the near future.
