IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2015 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Yelkouan Shearwater Puffinus yelkouan VU winter (2009–2015) 836 birds A1, A4ii, B1ii, B2
Sociable Lapwing Vanellus gregarius CR passage (2009–2015) 1–20 birds A1, B2
Black-winged Pratincole Glareola nordmanni NT passage (2009–2015) 3,700 birds A1, A4i, B1i
Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus NT passage (2009–2015) frequent A1
A4iv Species group - soaring birds/cranes n/a passage (2003) 74,625 birds A4iv, B1iv

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2015. The most recent assessment (2015) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2015 not assessed very high low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
no unset good

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Biological resource use happening now whole of population/area (>90%) rapid decline (>30% over 3 generations) very high
Residential and commercial development happening now whole of population/area (>90%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) very high

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation No management planning has taken place Substantive conservation measures are being implemented, but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity low
