Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A mountainous area including the gorge of the Selinous river. The lower slopes are covered with
Pinus forests and maquis. At high altitudes
Abies forest and subalpine grasslands dominate. Human activities include forestry, stock-raising, and hunting.
This is an important area for breeding raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Falco naumanni (5 breeding pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats include road construction, illegal logging, pollution of the river (`Other' threats), and illegal hunting. A LIFE-funded project is producing a management plan. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

International High10,762 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Zoumpata-Agios Charalampos-Marmpas-Klokos, 10,762 ha).
