Site description (2000 baseline)
Marshland lying behind dykes with several canals and smaller streams. The area is mainly used for cattle-grazing.

Key biodiversity
This is an important staging area for Anser brachyrhynchus, Branta leucopsis and B. bernicla, with total numbers of waterbirds exceeding 20,000 individuals. Most breeding birds declined during 1980-1990; more recent information is not available.
