Amankaragay Forest

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2007 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
White-headed Duck Oxyura leucocephala EN breeding (2004–2007) < 50 birds A1
Siberian Crane Leucogeranus leucogeranus CR passage (2005) 2 birds A1
Little Bustard Tetrax tetrax NT breeding (1998–2007) 100–220 birds A1, A3
Sociable Lapwing Vanellus gregarius CR breeding (2004–2007) 10–24 pairs A1, A3
Eastern Imperial Eagle Aquila heliaca VU breeding (1998–2007) 24–27 pairs A1, A3
Red-footed Falcon Falco vespertinus VU breeding (1998–2007) 20 pairs A1, A3
Saker Falcon Falco cherrug EN breeding (1998–2007) 3–5 pairs A1

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2007. The most recent assessment (2007) is shown below.
