Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The site is a military training area and is closed to the general public. About 70 km
2of land were removed from agricultural production in 1941 and this area is now fallow land. The remainder of the area is composed of intensively managed spruce
Picea forest, arable land, hay-meadows, and a few fish-ponds. Apart from military training, human activities include hunting, fisheries, agriculture and forestry.
This site is important for species of open and semi-open landscapes. It holds the largest population of
Crex crex in Austria.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats to the site include the intensification of agriculture and the potential impact of military training (`Other' threats).
