Site description (2000 baseline)
The site is a military training area and is closed to the general public. About 70 km2of land were removed from agricultural production in 1941 and this area is now fallow land. The remainder of the area is composed of intensively managed spruce Picea forest, arable land, hay-meadows, and a few fish-ponds. Apart from military training, human activities include hunting, fisheries, agriculture and forestry.
Key biodiversity
This site is important for species of open and semi-open landscapes. It holds the largest population of Crex crex in Austria.
