Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
An isolated, mountainous area with ravines and gorges and limestone scree in the alpine zone. Forest cover is dominated by fir Abies and pine Pinus with small patches of deciduous woodland. The main human activity is livestock-farming.



Key biodiversity
The area is important for alpine species and raptors.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from hunting. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International None1,420 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Tsouka Sakka-Asprorema/Epinianon, Trovatou, 1,420 ha). Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Ag. Nikalaou/Monastirakiou, 815 ha).
