Site description (2000 baseline)
A complex of habitats, comprising the large, shallow and eutrophic Puurijärvi lake, open fields (220 ha) and several adjacent mires along the Kokemäki river. The lake is mainly bordered by forests and in summer becomes almost totally overgrown with vegetation. Isosuo and other mires are large raised bogs with extensive open areas of pools in the centre, and sparse swamp-forests or mixtures of swamps and forests at the edges.

Key biodiversity
An important staging area for Haliaeetus albicilla and Cygnus cygnus. Podiceps grisegena (20 pairs), Porzana porzana (15 pairs) and Grus grus (10 pairs) also breed. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex (max. 4 pairs, breeding).
