Taxonomic note

Crithagra mozambica (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) was previously placed in the genus Serinus and listed as S. mozambicus following AOU (1998 & supplements); Dowsett & Forbes-Watson (1993); Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as common to locally abundant (Clement 1999, Fry and Keith 2004), while the population in Taiwan has been estimated at < c.100 introduced breeding pairs (Brazil 2009).

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be in decline as a result of the bird trade (UNEP-WCMC CITES Trade Database, January 2005).
