Taxonomic note
The genus Chrysomma has been moved from the family Sylviidae to Paradoxornithidae following Cai et al. (2019).
Geographical variation clinal, from palest in W (subspecies hypoleucum) to darkest in E (nominate), merging through middle of Indian Subcontinent; birds from Nepal appear intermediate. Four subspecies recognized.

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as uncommon and local in Pakistan, local to fairly common in Nepal and widespread and locally common in India (del Hoyo et al. 2007). The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any current declines or substantial threats.
