Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified due to recent taxonomic splits. Prior to being split, the species was described as 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996) and 'over most parts of range one of the commonest mountain hummingbirds' (del Hoyo et al. 1999).

Trend justification: Tree cover loss within the range is negligible (<1% over the past ten years; Global Forest Watch 2021) and forested habitat is currently not under threat. In the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats the population is assessed as stable.
