Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as common to uncommon (del Hoyo et al. 2005), while national population sizes have been estimated at c.100-100,000 breeding pairs in China and < c.100 introduced breeding pairs in Taiwan (Brazil 2009). The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.
