Population justification: The global population is estimated to number fewer than 50,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2020); therefore it is here tentatively placed in the band 20,000-49,999 mature individuals. The species is described as 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996). Based on observational records (per eBird 2021), the species likely forms at least two subpopulations.
Trend justification: Tree cover loss within the range is minimal (c.1% over ten years; Global Forest Watch 2021, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein); large tracts of suitable habitat remain intact or under protection (Stiles and Boesman 2020). The species is therefore tentatively assessed as stable.
