Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to usually be common or fairly common (del Hoyo et al. 2001). The population is suspected to be increasing owing to increased irrigation of previously arid areas and accompanying establishment of orchards, farmland and gardens (del Hoyo et al. 2001).
