LC
Western Corella Cacatua pastinator

Taxonomy

Taxonomic note
Sometimes considered to include smaller and smaller-billed C. sanguinea, and in the past treated as conspecific with C. tenuirostris; on current evidence, the three (entirely allopatric) forms probably best considered to constitute three separate species. Type specimen of subspecies derbyi previously considered of doubtful origin and locality, but subsequently validated (Schodde and Mason 1997); described form butleri (from near Coorow) is synonym of derbyi. Two subspecies recognized.

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the population size for the nominate subspecies has been estimated as c.3,000 individuals (Garnett and Crowley 2000). The population is suspected to be increasing as ongoing habitat degradation is creating new areas of suitable habitat.

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be increasing as ongoing habitat degradation is creating new areas of suitable habitat.
