Justification of Red List category
Despite having a small range covering just 435 km2, this species is locally abundant and does currently not appear to be afflicted by any threats. Consequently, this recently split species is listed as Least Concern.
Population justification
The population size has not been quantified. However, despite having a small range covering just 435 km2, it is described as abundant by O'Connell et al. (2020), who found more than half of birds mist-netted were the present species.
Trend justification
In the absence of any threats currently enacting on the species thought capable of causing declines, the population is suspected of being stable.
The species is endemic to the Wakatobi Islands off south-east Sulawesi, Indonesia.
It occurs in wooded habitats and scrub throughout the Wakatobi archipelago, where it is among the commonest of passerines (O'Connell et al. 2020).
