Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be relatively numerous in virgin desert (Madge and Burn 1993). The population is suspected to be in decline owing to intensive irrigation and the loss and degradation of desert vegetation through fuel wood collection and overgrazing (Madge and Burn 1993).
