Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but this species is described as common and locally abundant (Stotz et al. 1996, Collar et al. 2020).
Trend justification: The population trend has not been investigated. Tree cover within the range is lost at a rate of 8% over three generations (Global Forest Watch 2023, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). The species is however not strictly forest dependent and can tolerate open and edge habitats (Collar et al. 2020); consequently, even though the population may be in decline, the rate of decline may be slower than the rate of tree cover loss suggests. Tentatively, population declines are here placed in the band 1-9% over three generations.
