Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but this species is described as fairly common to common (Stotz et al. 1996, Krabbe and Schulenberg 2020).
Trend justification: Tree cover loss within the range is low (<5% over ten years; Global Forest Watch 2021, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). As the species is restricted to the undergrowth of humid montane forest (Krabbe and Schulenberg 2020), it is suspected that the population is undergoing a decline, albeit likely at a very low rate.
