Taxonomic note
Euscarthmus meloryphus and E. fulviceps (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as E. meloryphus following SACC (2005 & updates), Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993) and Stotz et al. (1996).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but this species was described as 'common', prior to being split (Stotz et al. (1996).
Trend justification: This species thrives in secondary and converted habitats, benefiting from forest clearance and occupying the resultant scrub areas (del Hoyo et al. 2004). Based on this information, its population is suspected to be increasing.
