Taxonomic note
The genus Rhopophilus has been moved from the family Sylviidae to Paradoxornithidae following Cai et al. (2019).
R. albosuperciliaris (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) was considered conspecific with R. pekinensis following Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993), but review (Leader et al. 2013) revealed that it differs in its dark brown vs whitish irides (3); more weakly streaked crown (2); flanks weakly streaked apricot-buff on off-white vs boldly streaked rufous on white (3); greyer cast to crown and tail (ns1); larger size (effect size for wing 2.97; score 2); differences in voice (allowed 3 (Leader et al. 2013)); drier, more desert-like habitat (1). Monotypic.
