Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as common to abundant in the central highlands of Taiwan (del Hoyo et al. 2007), while the population in Taiwan has been estimated at c.100,000-1 million breeding pairs (Brazil 2009).

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be in decline owing to ongoing habitat destruction and fragmentation.
