Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as common in the 1990s in north and western mountain ranges in Sumatra and on Borneo from Kinabalu to the Mueller range (del Hoyo et al. 2005).

The species is tentatively assessed as being in decline due to habitat loss per Tracewski et al. (2016).
