Population justification: The global population is estimated to number fewer than 50,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2019); thus it is here placed in the band 20,000-49,999 mature individuals. The species is described as 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996).
Trend justification:
A remote sensing study found that forest loss within the species's range has been negligible (<1% over three generations; Tracewski et al. 2016). Therefore, in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats, the population is tentatively assessed as being stable.
