Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be locally fairly common (del Hoyo et al. 1997, Collar et al. 2020).
Trend justification: The population trend has not been investigated. Tree cover within the range is lost at a rate equivalent to 14% over three generations (13.8 years), but this is offset by an equally high rate of tree cover gain (Global Forest Watch 2021, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). The species is therefore tentatively suspected to be stable.
