Population justification: The population size is unknown, but the species is described as uncommon or rare (Dickinson et al. 1991, Allen 2020). Given the area of habitat remaining within the range however, the global population size is unlikely to be especially small.
Trend justification: Although much of this species' range lies above altitudes affected by habitat loss, remote sensing data (Global Forest Watch 2024, using data from Hansen et al. [2013] and methods disclosed therein) indicate that forest loss within the extant and possibly extant range is slow but ongoing (at a rate equivalent to c.3-4% over three generations). Precautionarily therefore, the species is suspected to be declining slowly, tentatively placed in the range 1-9% in three generations.
