Taxonomic note
Psittacara wagleri and P. frontatus (del Hoyo and Collar 2014) were previously placed in the genus Aratinga and lumped as A. wagleri following Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as abundant in much of its range, but more local especially in Venezuela (Collar et al. 2020).
Trend justification: The population trend has apparently not been quantified, but it is suspected to be in moderately rapid decline, owing to trapping, persecution and land-use change (del Hoyo et al. 1997; Collar et al. 2020).
