Taxonomy

Taxonomic note
Schiffornis turdina, S. olivacea, S. stenorhyncha, S. aenea and S. veraepacis (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as S. turdina following AOU (1998 and   supplements), SACC (2005 and updates), Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993) and Stotz et al. (1996).

Population justification: The global population is suspected to number fewer than 50,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2022); thus it is here placed in the band 20,000-49,999 mature individuals.

Trend justification:

The population is suspected to be in decline (del Hoyo et al. 2020, Partners in Flight 2022). Tree cover within the range is lost at a rate of 7% over ten years (Global Forest Watch 2021, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). The species is restricted to the interior of humid forests (del Hoyo et al. 2020); therefore, population declines may exceed the rate of tree cover loss. Tentatively, population declines are here placed in the band 1-19% over ten years.
