Rhipidura rufifrons, R. melanolaema and R. dryas (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as R. rufifrons following Sibley and Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be uncommon to locally very common (Pratt et al. 1987, Coates 1990, Flegg and Madge 1995, Coates et al. 1997).

Trend justification: This population is suspected to be in decline owing to the loss of habitat used for breeding and migration corridors (del Hoyo et al. 2006).
