Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but descriptions range from 'generally rare' (Greeney 2020) to 'fairly common' (Stotz et al. 1996).

Trend justification: Data on population trends are lacking, but declines are suspected on the basis of habitat destruction and human incursion into forest habitats. Over three generations (13.6 years), 2% of tree cover is lost within the range (Global Forest Watch 2022, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). Despite additional negative impacts of habitat degradation, population declines are likely equally low and localised; they are here tentatively placed in the band 1-9% over three generations.
