Population justification: The global population is suspected to number 18,000,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2019).
Trend justification: Christmas Bird Count data shows a long-term decline in U.S.A, with the rate of decline potentially decreasing over recent years, whereas in Canada the long-term trend is stable (Meehan et al. 2018). Data from the North American Breeding Bird Survey shows a stable population over the last ten years (Pardieck et al. 2018). Therefore, overall, the population trend is tentatively assessed here as stable.
