Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be locally common throughout most of its range (Madge and Burn 1993), while national population sizes have been estimated at c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs in China and < c.100 introduced breeding pairs in Taiwan (Brazil 2009).
Trend justification:
The species is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.
