Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be widespread but sparsely distributed (del Hoyo et al. 2001). The population is suspected to be increasing owing to road building in mallee woodland which has provided an increase in suitable nesting sites (del Hoyo et al. 2001).
