Taxonomic note
Crithagra rufobrunnea (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) was previously placed in the genus Serinus and listed as S. rufobrunneus following Dowsett & Forbes-Watson (1993); Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but race thomensis is described as common and the nominate race is described as scarcer than thomensis (Clement et al. 1999).
Trend justification: Some survey work has suggested that it may prefer primary forest (see Dallimer et al. 2012). However, it may also occur in a range of degraded habitats such as plantations, edge habitats and even in city gardens (Clement 2018). Therefore, the population is tentatively suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.
