Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as common in northern Pakistan and India and scarce to locally common in south-east Asia (del Hoyo et al. 2005), while national population sizes have been estimated at c.100-100,000 breeding pairs in China and c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs in Taiwan (Brazil 2009). The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.
