Taxonomic note

Chloris sinica (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) was previously placed in the genus Carduelis following AOU (1998 & supplements); Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as common or locally common (Clement 1999), while national population estimates include: c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs and c.1,000-10,000 individuals on migration in China; c.50-1,000 individuals on migration, c.50-1,000 wintering individuals and c.100-10,000 breeding pairs in Taiwan; c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs and c.1,000-10,000 wintering individuals in Korea; c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs and c.1,000-10,000 wintering individuals in Japan and c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs and c.1,000-10,000 individuals on migration in Russia (Brazil 2009).
