Taxonomic note

Philesturnus carunculatus and P. rufusater (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as P. carunculatus following Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993) and Turbott (1990).

Population justification: Recent population estimates (2013) suggested there were more than 7,000 birds across all populations (Parker 2013).
