Population justification: The global population is estimated to number fewer than 50,000 mature individuals (Partners in Flight 2019); thus it is here placed in the band 20,000-49,999 mature individuals. The species is described as uncommon to common (Jaramillo and Burke 1999).

Trend justification: The species has undergone a large, significant decline over the last five decades (Partners in Flight 2019). The species is however able to adapt to moderate levels of habitat disturbance (Fraga 2020).
