Population justification: The population is estimated to number c.600 individuals on Cuvier Island.  This constitutes a tiny proportion (much less than 5%) of the species's range, and so the total population is likely to number 12,000 individuals at the very least, but probably considerably more. It is precautionarily placed in the band 10,000-19,999 individuals. This equates to 6,667-13,333 mature individuals, rounded here to 6,000-15,000 mature individuals. This species is considered to have a medium dependency on forest habitat, and tree cover is estimated to have declined by 6.5% within its mapped range over the past 10 years (Global Forest Watch 2022, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). Therefore, as a precautionary measure, it is tentatively suspected that this loss of cover may have led to a decline of between 1-19% in the species' population size over the same time frame.
