Taxonomic note
Very similar to and apparently sympatric with C. alice. Subspecies ignotus sometimes considered synonymous with alice, or treated as a hybrid. Birds of Colombia have been separated as subspecies acuticaudus, but regarded as doubtfully valid. Two subspecies recognized.

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified. Density descriptions range from uncommon in Colombia (Hilty 2021) to fairly common or common (Stotz et al. 1996, Bündgen and Boesman 2020).
